the story goes that some Liverpool fans were listening to it on a supporters' coach on the way to an away game and got the idea to sing it at the game (there was some Man Ure fans who took exception to it being sung at OT as they believed that it referred to the Munich disaster, i have no idea whether that is what it really refers to, but i wouldn't put anything past those scousers with their world famous sense of humour...).
oh, and England are singing it just cos they think it sounds good (probably).
