Absolutely no evidence other than a hunch here either.
Yes, new 4 year contract. But it took time to get him to sign it and there had been interest, notably from Derby, but others as well.
Guess a "compromise" might have been sign the new 4 year deal, it gives you security and us security in that we will get a decent fee, albeit, I guess, with yes, a release clause included!
Wouldn't surprise me if Derby made an offer, even Watford (Hunter connection) or someone like Sheff Utd, Charlton etc.
Would like to be proved wrong but I do wonder if he thinks he's maybe gone as far as he can with us and needs that old standard, the "fresh challenge"?
