I was behind the goal

my first reaction was it had crossed but that was just a hunch. Both the referee and lines man were in the wrong position to tell.

If you can't see the ball cross the line then you can't give it. Its quite simple really.

The way Marshall was laying non of the Southampton plays would have been able to see either.
