Fixing a leaky cistern - advice, good and bad
If you find your cistern leaking, here's what you do. Stop the water supply, remove the faulty part and replace it, tighten everything up a bit, and turn the water back on. Stand and watch the cistern fill up and satisfy yourself that the leak has been dealt with. Well done.
What's NOT a good idea is to think at this point "I ought to tighten that up a bit more" and then accidentally pull instead of pushing with the wrench - and then panic a bit when the first squirt of water hits you in the side of the head, and continue turning the nut the wrong way.
Ay ham farking thoaked.
