He's a decent player and I always thought we made a bit of a mistake letting him go in the first place. At the start of last season we had Safri, Etuhu and Hughes as the recognised central midfielders in the squad. If Russell signs (and he is not a replacement for Saf) we will have:

Safri
Brellier
Fotheringham
Russell
Smith

all playing for two places whilst Chadwick, Hughes and Martin are all also capable of playing there.
