Release clauses
triggered by a bid which matches or exceeds a pre-arranged figure are very common now, most especially when a 'lesser' team pays a decent sum for a decent player who is expected to enhance his reputation at that club. So it is unlikely that Earnshaw would be at Norwich without one. However, the idea that this kind of information should be made public is none too bright. If he has a trigger clause at £3.5m, and it is public knowledge, who on earth would offer more ?
However, this would depend on him, his agent and the club having a confidentiality contract too.
He came, he played well and someone bid enough. He will play against Manure, Arse, Pool and Chelski next season - I guess that is every players ambition so good luck to him.
As for new players, I suspect we will spend £1m - £1.5m on a couple of half decent stopgaps, and bring in a bright spark (like Bentley) on loan. That is about our level. We have not been premier league for too long and money is tight in this league.
