UNDER 20S SET FOR CANADA
Friday, 22 Jun 2007
Scotland's Under 20 footballers are preparing intensively for the FIFA U20 World Cup, which starts next week. They fly out on Monday to the west coast of Canada with high hopes of doing well at the showpiece tournament.
The 21 man squad have been doing twice daily sessions at Murray Park in Glasgow, to ensure they are at maximum fitness levels before the long trip to Victoria. Their campaign starts on Sunday 1 July against Japan, and continues against Nigeria and Costa Rica, with the top two teams in the group progressing automatically, and the best third placed teams also going through.
Scotland have only taken part in the FIFA World Cup twice before, in 1983 and 1987, on each occasion reaching the quarter finals. Under Tommy Wilson and Archie Gemmill, there is a strong belief that the current squad can do better than that.
The players selected, with their squad numbers, are:
1 Andrew McNeil (Hibernian)
2 Andrew Cave-Brown (Norwich City)
3 Lee Wallace (Heart of Midlothian)
4 Jamie Adams (Kilmarnock)
5 Scott Cuthbert (Celtic)
6 Mark Reynolds (Motherwell)
7 Michael McGlinchey (Celtic)
8 Calum Elliot (Heart of Midlothian)
9 Steven Fletcher (Hibernian)
10 Graham Dorrans (Livingston)
11 Ryan Conroy (Celtic)
12 Scott Fox (Celtic)
13 Ryan O’Leary (Kilmarnock)
14 Andrew Considine (Aberdeen)
15 Garry Kenneth (Dundee United)
16 Ross Campbell (Hibernian)
17 Sean Lynch (Hibernian)
18 Robert Snodgrass (Livingston)
19 Alan Lowing (Rangers)
20 Brian Gilmour (Clyde)
21 Greg Kelly (Aberdeen)
