Was wondering what impact floods would have on house prices.

House prices here have been going really steeply up since we bought the place, so it'll be interesting to see how they go now.

One of the local old boys whose car I heroically, cough, pushed out of the flood water on Friday morning said he's lived here 30 years and this is the worst he's ever seen.

Indeed, it's the first time our house has flooded, although the houses on the next street have been hit before. They're on lower ground - about 8 feet lower.

I have my suspicions why the brook backed up as high as it did. About a mile downstream they've recently started building on a massive area of what was previously waste land - and the brook flows right though it before it goes underground. It wouldn't take much slipped hardcore/concrete/general detritus to have a big impact further upsteam in a dam type stylee.

In the four years we've lived here I've seen the ground cope with almost as much rain as that, without anywhere near the effects we saw last week. There's deffo something else at play - it's not just volume of rainwater.
