Enjoyed the XXL16 report on his game, nowt like a tale from a local football league...so if you are sitting comftably I will tell my tale..

I had been a goal keeper since I was little, and with my eventual height at 6 foot 4 with 'Go Go Gadget Arms' this made me pretty good as a goalie. So it was a suprise after 15 years in goal that for one game (due to injuries) I was put upfront for my team, against the super footballing might called Poringland. I ran aimlessly around for a bit feeling completely out of my depth.... then after 10 mins a cross came over and I volleyed it...from the outside of the 18 yard area...off one post and nestling into the net at other corner. A wonder goal!..I had always wondered (as GK's do) what my celebration would be if I ever scored a goal...my shirt over my head?? A Fleming style celebration dive?..THe Roger Millar dance round the corner flag??..but alas I never found out as I got mobbed by my team mates.

The sad end to the story was the next season I was playing a friendly for Beccles and a rash boot in the back of my knee ended my football career in my early 20's. Cricket followed but a broken shin, wrist and a reoccurance of the knee injury mean that I will probably have to retire too....Lawn Bowls beckons methinks.
