depends on context

almost any term refering to a group of people can be offensive. Nigger is a word used by black people as a term of endearment as well as a racist slur.

In the same conversation that this woman said it and got booted out of the house for it, I believe the black woman in question also said "nigger". It's a complex one though and the final descision on it's offensiveness has to be taken by the person being refered to as a nigger.

Just thinking about it I have a black friend who I call "my nigga" but wouldn't dream of calling my other black friends the same. Weird.

I reckon at the end of the day in a situation like this it wasn't offensive. Probably still wrong and a bit stupid though.
