Is "PROVEN" an order of magnitude better then "proven"?

Let's get our relative terminology all cleared up right from the start. If we want a PROVEN striker, does that differ in some way from a proven striker. Is that different to the "20-goal-a-season" striker that was de rigeur three or four seasons ago, but which we don't hear so much about these days?

Does he have to be "hungry"? Or even "HUNGRY"? What about "Hungarian"? Good enough compromise?

Or perhaps we could leave the usual cliches out of it. Or CLICHES. Even. Yes.
