I heard some interesting rumours at the time of his proposed Chelsea move which included scar-faced men with sawnoffs. I have no idea how untrue they are.

My favourite Liverpool-related story, though: a scouser I work with had a mate who'd done the dirty in a deal involving somebody's brand new car. He received lots of threats and warnings concerning his health from the aggrieved party, bricked it and ran off and hid, saying nothing to his wife about it.

A short while later, two heavily-built men in leather coats turned up at the man's house, asking his whereabouts, and the deserted wife said that she wanted to know, too, "the useless lazy fooker". The heavies, believing her to be covering for the hubby, began to apply some pressure on her, at which point her next-door neighbour, who was hanging out her washing at the time, came to see what was going on.

The police arrived a little while later to rescue the heavies from the severe beating the girls were giving them!
