Not as cold as Lake Waikaremoana back home

Over 250m deep and ice-cold even in summer. I've swum there, too; in a few places around the edges there's crystal-clear water over the remains of a submerged forest, absolutely beautiful. However, after 20 minutes or so, I was so cold I couldn't pull myself back into the boat!

At Loch Ness I had taken the precaution of bringing a bottle of whisky for "medicinal" purposes. I also had my (then new) girlfriend to cuddle up to afterwards!
