Not completely convinced, sadly

if your latter suggestion was right, and their ambition was to get a slice of those huge TV revenues - then they might actually think that an even more profitable outcome would be to get a slice of those TV revenues season after season.

ie they wouldn't just spend to get there - they'd spend to stay there, too.

No idea if this is what they're after though...
