Why Leeds signed Beckford
Or at least part of the reason.
DJ Campbell had just signed for Birmingham, having played well for Brentford and scored against Sunderland to knock them out of the FA Cup. The fee was undisclosed, but around £75000. I think there was a fear that they could lose out on a non-league gem, and the fee was hardly a risk.
I last saw Tresor Kandol play, when he was at Purfleet (Ryman Prem). They were playing against Wealdstone, who Jermaine used to play for, in the FA Trophy. Kandol looked a useful player then, but this was against a team 5 divisons lower than Leeds.
I understand that when Kandol was at Luton, he had a number of "off the field personal problems" which caused his contract not to be renewed or teminated.
