Even worse than Robben

I thought I’d seen the best diver of the lot when we played at Chelsea in the cup. Robben’s theatrics were a cut above anything I’d seen for a while. Even my daughter Gemma, who is only eight years old, asked me why he played like that, falling over then sitting down and not getting back up again after a tackle.

But a new diving supremo has emerged, stepping out of Robbben’s shadow. Perhaps the shadow could even trip him up.

Joe Cole – out-robbened Robben yesterday. Every time he was tackled, he threw himself to the ground, in a way that a high jumper twists his body to get over the bar. I lost count of the number of times he did this.
