3G you mean ? No...

There are 6 main types of data connection for mobiles:

Infra-red (for connecting to a device at a few inches distance)

Bluetooth (for connecting to a device at a few metres distance)

GPRS - slow data connection over supported GSM network (2.5G) (also "Edge" which is a supercharged version)

UMTS - "fast" data connection over the standard UMTS (3G) network

HSDPA - broadband speed data connection over supported UMTS networks.

WiFi - connect to a WiFi hotspot or your personal WiFi network and use the internet on your mobile at pretty much the speed the software can handle (i.e. fast).

There are other methods such as UMA etc but those will die before they take off.

WiFi is only supported on some devices. For example, I have this baby:

which is GSM for phone calls, GPRS (Edge where supported) for data, GPS for traffic thingies, and also WiFi for when I am at home or near a hotspot (takes a lot of battery though).
