Waghorn on Safri

After talking about him being fit, -
"It would have been a cruel blow to have lost Safri at this stage of the season. He has, in fairness, been excellent of late - his mopping up duties in and around the centre-half pairing of Gary Doherty and Jason Shackell going a long, long way to securing those big, back-to-back 1-0 wins over first Birmingham City and then Stoke City."
Why on earth the "in fairness"? What is it that Rick - and also Worthy and it seems Grant - has against Safri? When he's plainly our best midfielder, and has been for 3 years?
I really don't get it.
