It's called getting "peanutted"...

up here. I think clip-ons are the way forward, especially if you work at a s**tty school where uniform is considered the be-all and end-all of behaviour problems so you constantly have to chivvy kids for "the way they wear ties these days"... as in loosely tied so there's no real knot and hanging down around their chests.
