What about The Werckmeister Harmonies by Bela Tarr?

Now that is *seriously* leftfield, but I absolutely loved it. I've seen a lot of films and it would be in my top ten. Very, very oblique, incredibly slow, but plenty to think about in there, some stunning music and brilliant visual images ... breathtaking filmmaking for me ...
