Thing is, and I really don't want to kick off a major thread here, but the thing is that it's incredibly frustrating when you get home and find out that everything was your fault. As for the "ain't done nuffink" stuff, that's usually no more or less true than "the police were blameless".
I've never faced a baton charge myself, but I do remember talking to a middle-aged, tank-top wearing librarian *and his wife* who were visibly shaking after having been on the end of one. The cops DO start rucks, as I'm sure you're very much aware.
