Although they, (West Ham), did benefit from two transfers where all the cash (?12m) was paid up front when Joe Cole and Glen Johnson went to Chelsea.

Abramovich's millions were just starting to distort a transfer market which was starting to settle down post Bosman and West Ham were one of the first beneficiaries of this.

On the other hand god knows who we would have got had Worthington been allowed to spendall that cash on players....
