it's an "in-joke" gone stale

Based on the belief that our Scottish manager is overdoing the tartan quota in our squad (if rumours are to be believed). It appears that a few jokers started prefixing everything with "mac" and then it spread to usernames and reached it's zenith when someone photoshopped the fine city sign twinning it with Scotland. As always though, the arse has been well and truly kicked out of it to the point of tedium. Next stage though it will become kitsch and funny again.
