Techie Help Required Please!!

Right, my frined (who is even less computer litterate than me!) has recentley bought an acer laptop.

Everytime he uses the computer now a critical error occurs and he has to shut down. Acer have told him that its a problem with windows and he needs to reload the default settings to the computer

Question is, how do we do it??!??
