Liverpool offered him 100k a week - 10k more than Chelsea are willing to pay him. It's at this point that he's come clean and admitted he wants to leave, rather than trying to blame Liverpool for not offering him a good enough contract.

Presumably it's because he wants to spend the peak of his career playing for a (much) better team than Liverpool?

Not particularly condoning or criticising - just pointing out what appears to be going on....
