From what you're talking about, I think it's something different, i.e. things pre-loading themselves. Does it take ages to start up? Have a look in you Startup folder (Start/Programs/Startup) and see what you have in there. Delete things you don't need and restart.

There are some things which don't appear in the startup folder, which will require you to change things in your registry. This is not something you want to f**k up if you don't know what you're doing.

Run through the Processes tab in Task Manager (Right-click in system tray, Task Manager) and google all the processes running. Things like svchost, lsass, explorer, winlogon etc aren't anything to worry about, but you may find things buried in there.
