Gary Doherty - a wonderful human being

First of all there is his skill level. Clumsy, lumbering unaware oaf doesn't begin to cover it.

Second there are his relations with the press: "obviously I want to put things right and put on a good performance and get a good result.? he told the EDP just hours before turning the game on its head and doubling from 3 to 6 the number of points he had handed to Plymouth this season. Nice way to take the piss out of the people that pay your wages.

Third there is his ever-so professional attitude. Back when we were in a relegation struggle he would not play up front for City even though he later declared he was more than happy to do it for Ireland. And we all remember his disgraceful performance against Burnley when his then boss's job was on the line.

The list of players not fit to wear the shirt is a long way. But Doherty is the only one to rival Thorne's place at the top of it.
