There's a bit in Iain Banks' "The Wasp Factory" ...

... (which is a delightfully unpleasant novel by the way) where a character on the run from a secure mental hospital rings his brother to tell him he's found a chest freezer "You could fit a f**king Alsatian in". That's what made me post it. Since reading that book I can't think of the relative sizes of fridges or freezers without thinking about what size of domestic pet you could fit in it.
