Colchester`s new community stadium

seating 10,000 has at long last been given the go ahead and it is predicted will be ready for the start of the 2008/09 season.

Layer Road which is owned by the Council is slap bang in the middle of a pleasant housing area and is likely to be sold for residential development for a large sum of money some of which is earmarked to go towards the new community stadium. A rather nice touch is that the Council will expect any developer to include in the plans a memorial to the football club. One idea is that the centre of the pitch will be retained as part of a green open space area in the middle of the deveopment upon which such a memorial will be erected
