I'd say you're right for about 50% of them.

But not quite this obvious.

Sutcliffe didn't really want to be caught. Neither did Shipman or the Wests.

Mind you, I'm not sure we should call this guy a serial killer. I'd say he's more of a "spree" killer. Maybe that's the difference. Finally flips out, thinks he is the girls' protector, decides their lives are so bad they are better off dead, drugs them so that they don't experience pain and then kills them gently (therefore hard to find signs of trauma). Thinks of it as euthenasia.

Then, after he's done 3 of them realises he won't stop and starts making it obvious as he realises he needs to be caught and off the streets.
