Dude, I see your point, but

I've unfortunately been confronted with it too often (old family, unfortunate choice of friends and unforeseen suicide by friends father in front of my house 3 days before my 18th) and yes it does give you a darker sense of humour about it, but I'm not sure it really de-sensitizes you. It's more that you can laugh about it more because you can't imagine anyone being more upset / freaked out, and you survived it.
