A monkey bath, half a bag of "kettle chips" and a litre of pepsi have done the trick.
For now. Mrs Bay went for the mug's remedy and had a Macdonalds. Regreted it 30 mins later apparently. On the way back from picking her up from work I am going to call in at Spasda to get a couple of pale ales to take the remaining edge off.
