The thing with Fleck ...
... was that we let sentimentality get in the way of the facts. Firstly, he was never a prolific goalscorer even in his prime - I looked him up and the most he ever scored in a season in England was 11 - and when we signed him he'd barely played for two seasons, and clearly wasn't fit.
He did well on loan so O'Neill blew ?650k on him (obviously thinking he'd get more money for other players) - when Chase refused to open his purse-strings further that was all we had.
The situation with Thorne is completely different - free transfer, back-up, good recent record. He'll do a decent job for us IMO.
