well with hindsight yes

but the advantage of it is we never were in a poistion of having to pay him MORE than a year's wages.

Say we'd signed him to a 3 year contract and then after a year decided we wanted rid? Then we'd have had to pay twice as much.

And you wouldn't want to sign him to a one year NON-rolling contract because then you permanent uncertainty (look at the fuss whenever a player gets within a year of teh end of a contract).

remember, when we signed him to the contract he was being successful. If you sign a successful manager to a short contract and a bigger club shows an interest you can find yourself losing a prime asset for nothing when teh cintract is up (or nearly up)

I personally think a 1 year rolling contract was a reasonable compromise under the circumstances.
