Quick report of Holland-England

No alcohol :-(

First of all, atmosphere was great. It became apparent when the national anthems were played that England fans were all over the ground, but the banter was all taken in good heart and I saw no sign of trouble. Very nice evening that way.

England were certainly the better team.

Impressed with Richards. Very good debut. Michael Carrick and Andy Johnson (first dive on first touch of the ball) are not international class players in my opinion. Rio was exposed for pace a few times in the first half especially. Rooney the best player on the pitch with possible exception of Richards. Ashley Cole also played well most of the match. Rooney got pissed off with Johnson many times - the bloke never looks up when he has the ball and his first touch is awful. Joe Cole showed a few flashes (e.g. the cross for the goal) but looked like a player coming back from injury and finding his touch again.

Robinson at fault for the goal. Started to come and then checked back. Defenders saw him coming and left it.

SWP again had no chance to shine as he was utilised as an outlet on the break but every long pass to him sailed off the touchline.

England need Beckham, especially on set pieces. Gerrard and Lampard were awful on free-kicks and corners.

Why only 2 subs ? Why Robinson for the whole game ? Why wait so long before switching Cole back to the left and SWP on the right for Johnson ?

And the half-time entertainment ? Fucking darts match between English and Dutch players. The Brazilians in front of me were very confused by all this.
