the point of it is them saying that it's not either of the players that they have recently been linked with, it's some other, as yet unknown, player

for example if the Pink 'un had said we were about to get a striker in on loan most of us would be guessing that it'd be Riordan because that's who we've already been linked with, but if it wasn't Riordan we were signing it'd be good on them to let us know...
