but it does make a difference

The way I understand it is money raised by such things as Live aid, live 8, comic relief etc does not go to the governments. It is spent by the charities themselves doing their own work, starting their own initiatives in the problem areas, thus getting around the corruption (to a large extent). These things DO make a huge difference to thousands of peoples lives. Real differences we can be proud of. However they cannot, and never could solve the problem totally as the scale is just to huge, but they do save lives.
With regards to debt cancellation and corruption I doubt any of the G8 ministers would be naive enough to simply cancel the debt with no restrictions. My own guess would be that debt is 'suspended' initially with the condition that all money saved must be clearly accounted for, and spent in specified area's. Any country failing to do this would then see their repayments re-instated, and pressure bought from the UN to clean up their act.
It?s a shame so many are so cynical, but I can understand why. However we have a real opportunity here to really change the world, surely we should try?
