but things didn't go too well. He eventually lost the respect of the Aztec people and became a prisoner inside his own Palace. Eventually the Spanish (we think) killed him, and his priests secreted his body away in a cave somewhere, along with the bigger part of his fortune. Where, legend says, he still lies, with the treasure.
