Grant - the first doubts emerge
Went to the game yesterday and safe to say it was one of the worst performances in living memory, as bad if not worse than anything under Worthington.
I am going to give Grant the benefit of the doubt on this one because it was clear we would alwasy struggle if Saf, Hucks and Earnie were out and also that due to the baord and worthington's imcompetence he has been left with a squad so rediculously threadbare that it franly beggars belief.
However I would be lieing if I did not say that yesterdays team selection and set up has not dented my confidence in the man's judgment! He got both the team selection and the tactics totally and utterly wrong and by the time this was corrected in the second half the damage was done and we were on our way to another depressing away defeat.
It is totlaly and utterly beyond me how anyone can, having watched the Doc tarin and play, come to the comclusion that he is the man to play holding midfield. We could all have told Grant that he is not and that was evident within about 10 minutes yesterday. We could also have told you that bringing in Criag "we concede 3 goals a game when he plays" Fleming was the answer or playing Andy Hughes on the left wing! As soon as I heard the team I knew we would lose and took no pleasure in seeing it unfold before my eyes.
Grant has now in the last week stated in the press that he believes in playing players in their propoer positions and has then put out teams with Jarvis and Hughes on the left wing and with the Doc in midfield.
He said yesterday that he wants his teams to "be on the front foot" constantly but only 3 hours previously had put out a side with only 2 attacking players in it and no pace whatsoever.
Anyone who is as confident and forthright in what they say in the press needs to eb able to back it up with actions and yesterday that did not happen. Lets just hope he's a quicker pearner than his predecessor was and that also he is right now round at Delia and MWJs asking for them to let him bring in the 4 or 5 players we so blatently need.
Sort the squad out quickly and there is still time for us to be right in the mix this season.
