Obviously he's released when his contract expires - what I was saying is that if he doesn't want to stay, he won't take a move to another club before this season or in the January transfer window (which the club would have preferred over him leaving for free).

Rather, he'll just sit it out then retire with his money.

Basically saying that the club couldn't get any money by selling him before his contract ran out.

He has turned down moves elsewhere, as we know clubs like Celtic were in for him.
