Indeed

I'm not really in favour of ex-players/legends taking over the management of their previous clubs* as the pressure to succeed is massive (especially right now with us although he'd be given a longer honeymoon period than most I'd guess) and I'd be gutted to see someone like him (or Chippy) fail.

I'm not so sure about Curbishley - his best years at Charlton were before the really big money came in and the financial gap between the big clubs and the rest became so great.

I think I'd prefer a youngish up and coming manager from the Championship or even lower. One who's used to making the best of what they've got with fresh tactical ideas and a bit of nouse in the transfer market when given a few million. I don't take enough of an interest in other football to suggest names though ...

* Dave Stringer, of course, was great but then he bled yellow & green and took the best from both Saunders & Bond. And it was probably easier to make an impact amongst the big boys back then.
