if it doesn't work it would be seen as a ludicrous appointment. At least if they give it to a proven name, or an up and coming younger manager who's been successful elsewhere, and it still failed they could say they'd tried.
With Hunter, if it didn't work, everyone would use their powers of hindsight to say "well, of course it failed, the bloke's never done it before"
