haven't we. Last season, the season before that and barring maybe two seasons, just about other of Worthy's reign.
I think the Board is quite happy for us to be a medicore Championship side. Being a Prem club carries just too much responsibility. All those extra wages, more interest from the media, who needs it when you can get by on 24,000 gates safely esconsed in mid table obscurity.
When I look at how things have developed since we got promoted I can't escape the feeling that there is something seriously wrong at the club at the moment. It stems from an initial lack of investment when we first got promoted - the least of any of the promoted clubs at that time. Then we offloaded some perfectly good players (Jonson, Svensson) and brought in a load of dross to replace them (Hughes) again without spending any serious money.
Now, in the last season of parachute payments, we have spent a reported ?600K on just one player. Maybe we should be thankful that we are not in a lot more trouble. Still, its early days yet.
