Could well be it, particularly if it just stopped working
Does the battery have a little panel of blinking LEDs on it somewhere? You can reset the timer by either opening the battery, unsoldering the electronics from the cells and then reconnecting it, or some people have a widget that plugs into the battery and resets it using a computer program.
