if he'd dropped Lampard or Gerard and we'd got knocked out (as, of course, we almost certainly would) he'd still have been at fault. "How can you leave out a world class player like Lampard/Gerrard"

38 competitive games and only 3 defeats, 2 of those to Brazil & France.

In 3 major tournaments only lost one knockout game (the Brazil one) depite the tournaments being played in hot conditions totally unsuited to the English style of play and generally with absolutely key players injured.

Quite possibly the best England manager ever (certainly in the top 3)
(Not saying much admittedly, but probably true)
