if you have time/money sign up with a language school for an hour or two a week

bear in mind that you probably need to do about 150 hours to make noticeable progress.

i'd recommend a few hours of conversation classes (say a course of 30 hours) and then a self learning course. The best on the market is www.rosettastone.com but its not cheap (a few hundred quid i think), although you can probably get it on ebay or bittorrent.

if you can afford the time/money, i suppose you could do an intensive course in france, although these aren't always succesful (did you see that thing with ron atkinson?)

maybe worth looking into training budgets and things too - i've no idea how it works in the uk, but a lot of people get language courses in france through their company and save a lot.
