look, everyone would like us to sign a quality striker as back-up for Leon, or even to compete with him.

I think where the concern is that our resources are, as always, limited. Money we spend on a striker is money that won't go on a centre-midfielder. As you say, our back-up for the strikers looks a bit weak. But in other positions, we're struggling for first-teamers, never mind replacements.

Of course the obvious response is "Worthy knows what he's doing and it'll all come good." Probably so.

But the worry is that he does have a track record for collecting strikers, and neglecting other positions (I posted a list of all his signings by position a while ago, and it was striking how few midfielders he's brought in). And we have ended up consistently playing strikers out of position.

So while you're right that we do all love a moan, and it'll probably all be fine, I for one will be relieved once we have a midfielder or two and a right back in. And nervous if the first two signings are both strikers...
