"Aluminium" is in fact the incorrect term
The original name for the metal, "Alumium" was quickly replaced by "Aluminum" by the Englishman who discovered / identified it. However, after many years purists argued that it did not fit into the pattern for similar elements and has been referred to in the UK as Aluminium ever since.
But in America the correct term is still used.
I hate that.
