... under every set of circumstances - starting, coming off the bench, coming back from injury, fully fit, in position, out of position - he was a passable First Division striker in his day (better than, say, Keith Scott but not as good as David Johnson or Andy Booth) but those days are three or four years past.

People are annoyed about Thorne's mediocrity yesterday because he really should have been turfed out over the summer. Or had his contract terminated after Selhurst.
