Michelin brought unsafe tyres......
which caused Ralf Schumacher to crash in qualifying and were then certified unsafe. They didn't bring any backups (as they were supposed to do under the rules) so all of the teams who use Michelin tyres were unable to race.
The result was that all the cars went out for the warm up but then only 6 took their places on the grid with th other 14 all retiring to the pits and not starting the race. The only two decent cars who did start were the two Ferraris who unsurprisingly finished 1st and 2nd having simply gone through the motions for 80 odd laps!
